Basically anti aging treatments can be broken down into surgical and non-surgical. Anti aging specialists will target or more specific cosmetic concerns that the individual may have; things such as age spots, wrinkles, sagging skin, spider veins and more. The treatment that you elect to have is very much based on the condition. If you consider surgical intervention then there are other issues to confront such as recovery time, side effects and the pain that may come along with the surgery.

It is quite obvious that anti-aging treatments that involve a surgical procedure are more invasive that treatments that do not, surgical intervention is normally used when there is a need for drastic results. Surgical procedures that are commonly used in anti-aging treatments include the removal of eye bags, complete face lifts, brow lifts, etc. Most surgical anti-aging procedures take no more than two or three hours but an overnight stay in the hospital can be expected. Surgical treatments take considerably longer to recover from than non-surgical intervention and the final result may not be noticeable for some time.

Many anti aging specialists do not rely on surgical procedures, many people who are not comfortable with having to undergo surgery can turn to these specialists. Non-surgical treatments include skin resurfacing using a laser or plasma, derm-abrasion, dermal fillers, Botox injections and chemical peels.

Just because the treatment does not involve any surgery, do not think that there isn’t any pain as there can be. Ablative treatments involve actually damaging the top layers of the skin in order to trigger the growth of new and rejuvenated skin. These treatments include resurfacing the skin using laser, chemical peels, etc. These treatments are quite effective on medium as well as deep wrinkles; they are also effective for eliminating sun damage to the backs of the hands and the facial area.

Non-ablative treatments are not as painful; these treatments include skin tightening, sculpting and LED light therapy. These treatments are effective for eliminating or reducing fine lines and wrinkles. These non-ablative treatments are excellent for improving skin tone and can lift skin without the need for any surgery.

Anti aging specialists administer injectables into certain problem areas such as facial wrinkles. These products are wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers. Dermal fillers add bulk to the face whereas wrinkle relaxers such as Botox smooth out wrinkles. Botox works well on motion lines and is sometimes used along with dermal fillers.
