Not every person attending drug and alcohol rehab is there voluntarily. Some have been ordered by a court of law to seek counseling in order to fulfill the obligations of parole or complete a sentencing arrangement when being convicted of a crime. Courts don’t get involved with someone’s drug and alcohol use unless that person commits a crime and tests positives for illegal drugs or excessive alcohol use. When it comes to Florida, substance abuse courts often require at least three to six months of counseling in order to fulfill the requirements of a sentencing.

Finding the Right Treatment Center

Depending on the situation, you may be able to use your preferred rehab when seeking treatment. Keep in mind that you are responsible for all fees associated with a Florida substance abuse center, so if you lack a steady income it’s important to look for affordable treatment centers that offer payment plans or accept credit.

Before you choose a center, make sure the therapist knows your situation and that the center has experience dealing with court appointed substance abuse counseling. The majority of rehab centers deal competently with people taking therapy to satisfy court requirements, but you need to feel comfortable that you’re not being judged for supposed criminal activity.

Release of Substance Abuse Counseling Requirements

The court will determine the length of your counseling, and you will need to show proof that you attended counseling. Many people deal directly with their parole officer when reporting drug counseling treatment, and a parole officer can also let you know if you’re missing certain classes or only have a certain number of hours left to satisfy court requirements.

While it can be tempting to blow off Florida substance abuse counseling, it will make you in violation of your parole. This can lead to jail time and having to attend a prison based drug treatment center. When ordered to complete substance abuse counseling, it’s best to pay the fees and complete the time so you can move on with your life.
